Steven Leland Hensel, 66, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at 1:34 a.m., at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hensel graduated from Milton High School in Milton, WI, with the class of 1973. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for five years and served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany. In December of 1977, he left the Army with an honorable discharge and moved to Janesville, WI. He first worked at various other jobs, then started at the Janesville GM plant for two years. When the Fort Wayne plant was built, he moved his family from Wisconsin to Indiana in 1986 to help start it up. He retired in October of 2014 after 30 years of service. He owned Steve's Guns & Ammo shop for many years. He was a member of the NRA and UAW Local 2209.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1955, in Beloit, WI, to Lee and Rita Esse Hensel. He married Astrid M. Lehnhardt on Sept. 11, 1976, in Nuremberg, Germany. She survives in Huntington.
Additional survivors include a son, Michael L. (Liz) Hensel, of Stafford, VA; a daughter, Christine E. (Christian) Clark, of Fort Wayne; a sister, Diane Hensel-Champion, of Edgerton, WI; two brothers, Leland (Cathie) Hensel, of Janesville, WI, and Paul (Gina) Hensel, of Tomahawk, WI; and two granddaughters, Sabela Medina and Noalani Larson.
A private family service and burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.
