Jo Elaine Gamble

Jo Elaine Gamble, 73, of rural Mentone, Ind. passed surrounded by her family at 3:31 pm, Thursday, December 9, 2021 at her residence.

Jo was born on April 12, 1948 in Huntington, Ind. to Joe D. and Janice A (Carl) Rice. She married on Jan. 15, 1969 in North Manchester, Ind. to Victor D. Gamble, he survives.

She was a graduate of Huntington Township High School in 1966.  She then attended Manchester College, graduating in 1970. Jo furthered her education with two Master’s Degrees from Ball State University.  She taught for Northfield High School and then transitioned into Real Estate, where she was a real estate agent from 1974 -1988 for Larry Nellans Relators and then Lucas Relators.  In 1988, she pursued an opportunity to return to education and accepted a role as the Guidance Counselor at “The” Tippecanoe Valley High School, where she retired in 2009.
She took great pride in being a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a Christian and a lifetime member of the Central Christian Church of Huntington, IN.  Jo touched so many lives in an extremely positive way.  If you knew Jo, you know it was her lifelong calling to help and serve others in her family and her community, especially the youth.  She was a member Psi Iota Xi Sorority, founded the Miss Kosciusko Scholarship Pageant and served as a volunteer EMT for the Mentone EMS.  As a member of the TVHS staff, Jo enjoyed supporting many extra-curricular activities.  Many Viking supporters know Jo as the “Queen of the North Door”.  For many years, she and Vic were ticket takers at home basketball and football games. For more than 25 years, Jo and Vic hosted the boys and girls basketball teams for a pre-sectional dinner at their home.  She greatly enjoyed hosting and serving a formal meal on Prom Night for Handicapable/Special Education students at Valley and hosting the annual Christmas party for the wonderful members of the FFA.  She looked forward to cooking meals for the Mentone United Methodist Church Wednesday night service.

Jo looked at her children as her greatest calling.  Providing an endless amount of love, support and encouragement in all that came their way.  Her sons’ friends from Tippy Valley, Sigma Chi’s at Ball State, and many other friends got know Jo, too.  Her boys took great pride in their mother and loved to have friends visit their home.  As they did, a common theme arose among these visitors “your mom is incredible”, “we love mama Jo”, the greatest testament to her caring ways “Jo is like a second Mom to me”.  Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews were loved without limits and always knew that whenever they needed support Grammy/Aunt Jo was a go to for them.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Vic Gamble of Mentone, sons Troy and wife Wendy Gamble of Noblesville and Shane and wife Ally Gamble of Fishers; grandchildren Tyler, Garrison, Elijah, Joey, and Delaney; her mother Janice Eller of Mentone; and a sister Janick “Nicki” Norris. Many Nieces, Nephew and other wonderful extended family.

Jo was preceded in death by her father Joe D. Rice and daughter-in-law Erin Lyn Gamble.
