Perry T. Hovermale Jr., 70, of Owingsville, KY, formerly of Marion, IN, and with family ties to Huntington, IN, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at 12:14 a.m., at IU Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Mr. Hovermale was a graduate of Bath County High School. He attended Morehead College. He also attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Marion. He was a welder for 37 years and worked in Skilled Trades (Die Welder) at General Motors in Marion. Upon retiring in 2006, he became a welding instructor at Ivy Tech Community College. He was a U.A.W Shop Chairman, Committeeman and active union member. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1950, in Bath County, KY, to Perrty T. Hovermale Sr. and Gladys Hatton Hovermale. His former wife, Brenda Fowler Hovermale, survives in Upland.
Additional survivors include three sons, Perry T. (Dianne) Hovermale III, of Upland, Jason (Erika) Baker, of Monticello, and Sherman Zachary Hovermale, of Owingsville, KY; two daughters, Ashley (Scott) Herzog, of Huntington, and Jamie (Jeff Fields) Hovermale, of Gas City; eight siblings, Mary Hovermale, Matthew Hovermale, Ivan Hovermale, Evan Hovermale, Lella Sanchez, Anita Hughes, Timothy Hovermale and Rachael Hovermale; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dakodah Wolfe.
Calling will take place on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, from 3 to 5 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1465 E. Bradford St., Marion. A celebration of life service will follow with Perry T. Hovermale III officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Interment will be in the Shrout Cemetery in Owingsville, KY, on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at 2 p.m.
