Melvin S. Cox, 87, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at 2:52 p.m.
Mr. Cox graduated from Garrett High School with the class of 1952 in Garrett, KY. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He studied electrical engineering at Tri-State College in Angola. He was an entrepreneur with many talents including a founder and co-owner of Cox Brother's Inc. and M&M Cox Rental Properties.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1934, in Garrett, KY, to Patton and Amy Gayheart Cox. He married Margie Patrick on Aug. 3, 1957, in Wolcottville. She survives in Huntington.
Additional survivors include a son, Patton S. Cox, of Roanoke; two daughters, Vanessa K. Cox, of Carrollton, TX, and Deidre D. Myers, of San Tan Valley, AZ; a sister, Anna Mae (Mont) Conley, of Kendallville; two granddaughters, Jessica (Patrick) Martin and Jaclyn (Gavin) Gilpin; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling will take place on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Rev. Richard Strick and Rev. Adam Jones will officiate. There will be one hour of calling prior to the service. Masks are required for all events, per the family’s request.
Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Albion.
