J. Philip Karst

J. Philip Karst, 85, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Karst was a 1954 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He then served in the U.S. Army. He was a railroad conductor for Erie Lackawanna and a lifetime farmer. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society.  He also volunteered with Love INC.

He was born on May 12, 1936, in Huntington, to Joseph Herman and Anna McNulty Karst. He married Jacqueline Fox on Jan. 17, 1959, in Columbia City. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2019.

Survivors include four sons, Michael (Belinda) Karst, of Huntertown, Pat (Sara) Karst and Steve Karst, both of Huntington, and Doug (Sharon) Karst, of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Nathan (David Olmsted) Karst, Andrew (Kerrie) Karst, Casey (Liz) Karst, Emma Karst, Katie (Adam) Fusselman, Lindsey (Michael) Caley and Megan (Markus) Clancy; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling will take place on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, from 3 to 7 p.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington. Recitation of the Rosary will take place prior to the calling at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m.

Additional calling hours will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, from 10 to 11 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Rev. Thomas Zehr will officiate.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
