Philip Rogers

Philip Rogers, 88, of Van Buren, IN, and with family ties to Huntington, IN, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, at 5:36 p.m., at University Nursing Center in Upland.

Mr. Rogers was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Upland. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served overseas in Japan. He was a Grant County farmer and raised hogs for many years. He formerly worked at I&M Electric in Marion and was a member of the Good Sam’s Camping Club and Yellow Rockers Square Dancing Club. He served on the Grant County 4-H board and the Grant County Soil and Water Board.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1933, in Grant County, to George H. and Ruby M. Robinson Rogers. He was first married to Nancy Johnson Rogers. She preceded him in death. He was then married to Nelva Ickes Forrester Rogers. She survives in Hartford City.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Crystal Jane (Kent) Gressley, of Van Buren; two sons, Todd R. (Natalie) Forrester, of Brodhead, WI, and Greg Forrester, of Hartford City; a sister, Connie Linn, of Marion; 11 grandchildren, Ethan Gressley, of Marion, Seth (Sarah) Gressley, of Upland, Mollee Gressley, of Durham, NC, Abbie Gressley, of Broomfield, CO, Danielle (Jeremy) Vanlandingham, of Huntington, Kimberly Dehn, of Rippen, WI, Cody Forrester, of Casper, WY, Zachary (Natasha) Forrester, of Tennessee, Kaitlyn Forrester, of Las Vegas, NV, Austin (Lauren) Forrester, of Hartford City, and Hannah Reid, of Hartford City; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Philip Lee Rogers and Rodney Forrester; and a grandchild, Tyler Forrester.

Calling will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, from 2 to 8 p.m., at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier.

A celebration of life service will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Rev. Jesse Johnson will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory in rural Marion. Military rites will be conducted at the grave.
