Anna Belle Eckelbarger McCartney

Anna Belle Eckelbarger McCartney, 98, of Bluffton, IN, and with ties to Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at Markle Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Eckelbarger was a 1941 graduate of East Union High School and continued her education at Marion College majoring in music and psychology. She retired from General Electric. She was a member of the Gideons (Auxilliary), Red Hat Society and Mothers’ Day Out at the First United Methodist Church.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1923, in Huntington County, to Lawrence and Mary Maude Carter Eckelbarger. She married Forrest Jay McCartney on Aug. 15, 1952, in Bluffton. He preceded her in death in 2009.

Survivors include five children, William (Joye) Gardenour, of Bluffton, Jonathan McCartney, of Fort Wayne, Randall (Beverly) McCartney, of Bluffton, Ken (Karla) McCartney, of Bluffton, and Lane McCartney, of Bluffton; three sisters, Marilyn Wilson, of Markle, Nancy Adams, of Beaverton, MI, and Joyce Green, of Markle; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Gardenour and Richard Gardenour.

A celebration of life service took place on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at the Sonlight Wesleyan Church. Rev. Lyle Breeding officiated. Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, of Bluffton, handled arrangements.

Burial was in Six Mile Cemetery.
