Robert L. “Bob” Smith

Robert L. “Bob” Smith, 69, of Van Buren, IN, and with ties to Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at 12:01 a.m., at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Smith was a 1970 graduate of Eastbrook High School. He formerly owned and operated Smith Excavating and Trucking for many years. He worked at Weaver Popcorn in Van Buren from 1981 to 2001 in their transportation division. His final job was at Jack Cooper Transport in Roanoke, where he recently retired from after 16 years of trucking.

He was born on April 11, 1952, in Marion, to Clay and Irene Gribbin Smith. He married Karen Burch Smith on June 16, 1984, in the Christian Bible Church. She survives in Van Buren.

Additional survivors include a son, Chad (Kelly) Smith, of Van Buren; three daughters, Jamie Smith, of Fort Wayne, Stephanie Krieg, of Van Buren, and Erin (Matt) Hewitt-Foyil, of Texas; two sisters, Linda (Brian) Faunce, of Van Buren, and Phyllis Smith, of Converse; and nine grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Darren Thurman, Alicia Satterthwaite, Angel Thurman, Chloe Thurman, Matthew Hewitt, Clay Smith, Noah Hewitt and Marcus Funkhouser.

Calling will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Van Buren United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 108 S. 2nd St., Van Buren,

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at 11 a.m., at the Van Buren United Methodist Church, 105 S. 2nd Street, Van Buren, with one hour of calling prior to the service. Rev. Jody Mounsey will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory in rural Marion.
