Mary C. Welches

Mary C. Welches, 87, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Huntington.                   

Ms. Welches was a 1952 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. She received her bachelor’s in 1956 at St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, and then her Masters in 1958 at Catholic University in Washington D.C.  She was employed with Catholic Social Services in Fort Wayne and in Dayton, OH.  She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and one of the founding members of the Historic Forks of the Wabash.

She was born on April 22, 1934, in Huntington, to August and Clara Nuck Welches.

Survivors include a sister, Sarah Montgomery, of Hartford City; four nephews, Mike (Anna) Bartrom, of Marion, Fred (Pat) Bartrom, of Tennessee, Pete (Kelly) Bartrom, of Pendleton, and Greg (Kim) Bartrom, of Middletown; two nieces, Teresa (Duane) Wade, of Columbia City, and Anne Vaught, of Warren; and many great nieces and nephews.

Calling will take place on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, from noon to 1 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington. Rev. Tony Steinacker will officiate. McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington, is handling arrangements.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.

Memorials may be made to the Historic Forks of the Wabash, or Masses at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
