Esther A. Hinen, 93, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2022, at Saint Anne Communities – Victory Noll in Huntington.
Mrs. Hinen worked several years at Memcor and also at HK Porter. She also worked at Nieders Bakery and was a homemaker. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, and a member of the Huntington County Senior Center.She was born on Nov. 16, 1928, in Fort Wayne, to Edward and Teresa Landstoffer Harber. She married John H. Hinen Sr., on May 17, 1949. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1995. Survivors include five sons, John Hinen, Jr., of Fort Wayne, Steven (Pat) Hinen, of Fort Wayne, Larry (Lynn) Hinen, of Columbia City, Daniel (Wanda) Hinen, of Fort Wayne, and Edward (Laura) Hinen, of Huntington; two daughters, Mary (Tim) Bowman, of Huntington, and Ann (Dennis) Boyer, of Roanoke; two sisters, Rita Leeuw, of Fort Wayne, and Mary Holthaus, of Huntington; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Diffenbaugh; and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hinen. Calling will take place on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, from 3 to 7 p.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 2:30 p.m. prior to the calling. Additional calling hours will take place on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, from 9 to 10 a.m., at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington, with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow with Rev. Thomas Zehr officiating. Burial will be in Mt.
