David Paul Draper, 72, of Washington Township in rural Whitley County, and with ties to Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, at Miller's Merry Manor, in Columbia City.
Mr. Draper graduated from Huntington High School with the Class of 1967 and received his associates degree from Sam's Technical Institue/ITT. In the fall of 1969, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in England. In 2001, he began working for Warner Electric and retired as a Quality Engineer. He was a member of Washington Center United Methodist Church where he had been a song leader and Treasurer, the American Legion Post 85 in Huntington, and the Loyal Order of Moose 837 in Huntington. He was a supporter of the Whitley County 4-H. For 10 years, he was an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 83.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1949, in Huntington, to Corwin "Corky" and Margaret Weiford Draper. He married Mary “Lucy” Richards on June 20, 1970, at Washington Center United Methodist Church. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Mary Beth (Brad) Schuman; a son, Jason (Mary) Draper; two brothers, Robert "Bob" (Ronda) Draper and Donald "Don" (Steve) Draper; a sister, Susie Draper; and five grandchildren, Keifer Schuman, Avery Comparet, Aubrey Comparet, Ian Schuman and Adeline Draper.
Calling will take place on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, from 3 to 8 p.m., at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Rev. Bill Rapp will officiate. Military rites will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force.
A private burial will take place at Beech Grove Cemetery in Huntington County.
