Phoeba May Goodmiller Wiley

Phoeba May Goodmiller Wiley, 99, of Warren, IN, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Heritage Pointe in Warren.

Mrs. Wiley graduated as the 1940 valedictorian of Rock Creek High School. She then graduated from Central Normal College, Danville, in 1944, with a bachelor’s in elementary education. She was a member of the Psi Chi Omega women’s sorority at Central Normal College. She started her teaching career at Salamonie Township School in Warren in 1944 as a fifth-grade teacher. She took a brief pause with the birth of her children and returned to teaching in 1964. She also spent time teaching at Warren School, Warren Elementary and Salamonie Elementary School. She retired in 1984 after 27 years of educational service to Warren area students. During her childhood, she was a member of the Lancaster Wesleyan Church and up until her death was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of Warren, which she joined in 1951. She served as a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher, a deaconess and church pianist.

She was born on Nov. 11, 1922, in Huntington, to Clarence Clinton Goodmiller and Mildred Alena Shutt Goodmiller. She married Harry Keith Wiley on March 6, 1949, at Warren Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2000.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Kyle (Deborah) Wiley, of Huntington; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen L. Wiley, of Kokomo; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Julie) Wiley, Kelly (Ryan) Hillman and Kirk (Amanda) Wiley, all of Kokomo; Kasey (Dona) Wiley, of Pegram, TN, Kara (Andrew) Alender, of Franklin, Andrew (Stephanie) Wiley, of Fort Wayne, and Mark (Chelsey) Wiley of Roanoke; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Andrew Wiley.

Calling will take place on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, from 2 to 5 p.m., and again on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m., both at First Baptist Church of Warren. A Celebration of Life service will follow on Sunday with Rev. Rusty Strickler officiating. The service will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Warren. Arrangements are being handled by Glancy - H. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Warren.
