Laura Marie Coy Spaulding

Laura Marie Coy Spaulding, 56, formerly of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at  Sarasota Memorial Hospital, FL.

Ms. Spaulding graduated from Huntington North High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Ball State University in 1987 and her Masters in Choral Conducting from the University of South Florida. After teaching for three years in Lancaster, PA, she and her husband served in musical and ministerial capacities at Bahia Vista Mennonite Church, and later at Covenant Mennonite Church, both in Sarasota, FL. In addition, she was vocal, choral and music history instructor at Booker High School and at the State College of Florida, all while maintaining a private vocal and piano studio and participating in professional performance groups.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1965, in Fort Wayne. After spending a few months with her foster mother, Ruth Wigman, she became the first child of Vernon and Peggy Coy. She married Randall Spaulding on June 11, 1988. Her former husband survives in Boulder, CO.

Additonal survivors include three brothers, David Coy, of Valrico, FL, Brian Coy, of Huntington, and Paul Coy, of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Connor Loren Spaulding.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 1 p.m., at Covenant Mennonite Fellowship, 5420 Ashton Rd., Sarasota, FL. Your Traditions Cremation and Funeral Chapel, Sarasota, FL, is handling arrangements.
