John Allen Roberts

John Allen Roberts, 74, of Warsaw, with ties to Huntington, died on Tuesday, April 19, at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.   

Mr. Roberts was a 1965 graduate of Montpelier High School.  He received a B.A. from Ball State University and a M.A. from St. Francis College. He served in the U. S. Air Force He received the Air Force Commendation Medal. He taught for 27 years at Columbia City Joint High School.  He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw. He was also a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association

He was born on Aug. 18, 1947, in Bluffton, to Ralph and Mary Bedwell Roberts. He married Delores Drerup on June 27, 1970, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington. She survives in Warsaw.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Campbell, of Huntington, Lisa (Troy) Lephart, of Muncie and Carolyn (Kraig) Borders, of Elkhart; a brother, Max Coffield, of Huntington; a sister, Mary Kay (Roger) Strine, of Hartford City, IN; and seven grandchildren, Travis Campbell, Brandy Campbell, Chase Lephart, Jacob Lephart, Ryleigh Lephart, Brynlee Borders and Lily Borders.

A Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, April 25, followed by calling from 4 to 7 p.m.. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home in Huntington.

Additional calling will take place on Tuesday, April 26, from 9 to 10 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington. Rev. Thomas Zehr will officiate.    

Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans, or the Heart Institute Fund at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN  46750.
