Jerry E. Helms, Sr.

Jerry E. Helms, Sr. 74, of Huntington, passed away at 1:25 pm Friday, June 24, 2022 at his residence.

Jerry was born on Sept. 6, 1947 in Huntington, the son of Max Helms and Doris (McCoy) Helms. He retired from JI Case as a diesel mechanic after 30 years of service. Jerry was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving five campaigns during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2689 where he served on the Honor Guard Team for over 30 years and he was a past post commander. Jerry spent many hours helping transport his fellow veterans to medical appointments.

Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Elisabeth (Lee) Helms of Huntington; daughter, Kerri (Mark Young) Helms of Hartford City; son, Jerry E. Helms, Jr. of Huntington; siblings, Linda (Dave) Dawson of Texas, Karen Herrick of Ossian, Pam (Larry) Leyman of Bluffton, Dale (Barb) Helms of Minnesota, Lori Gray of Fort Wayne, and Mickey (Sherri) Helms of Texas; grandson, Blayne Durbin; five granddaughters, Avery Durbin, Tiera Helms, Tia Silvers, Kaleen Helms, and Dalyla Helms; and his great-grandson, Asher Silvers.

He is preceded in death by his father, Max E. Helms, mother, Doris Helms, sister, Debra Clutter, brother, Darwin Helms, and daughter, Jeri Sue.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am - noon Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Rob Seewald officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the VFW Post 2689 Honor Guard. Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
