George ‘Bud’ Moon

George “Bud” Ivan Moon, of Van Buren, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, in Van Buren.

Bud was born on July 30, 1931, in Huntington County at home to Frank and Nancy (Slater) Moon.

He graduated from Jefferson Township in Huntington County. He married Doris Besore on June 5, 1955, at Van Buren UMC in Van Buren. Bud and Doris have been members of the Van Buren United Methodist Church all of their married life.

Bud served his country in the United States Army in Korea and he worked at Hemmick Hardware until their closing and retired from Salamonie Mills in Warren, Indiana. Bud enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds.

A handyman at heart, Bud was a great woodworker, building cupboards, a shed, and helped with building a gazebo and houses in town. He could fix anything and when people visited him at the hardware store, he often knew just what they needed. He loved his church and spending time with his grandchildren. Later in life, he enjoyed playing solitaire and riding his exercise bike six miles a day.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, and 10 siblings, and a son-in-law.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Moon of Van Buren; children Katie (Jon Jonson) McCroskey, Marianne (Earl) Gibson, Ruth Turner, David (Carol) Moon; grandchildren, Holly Kerschner, Shannon (Matt) Heyde, April (John) Shaver, Brooke (Steve) Moore, Robert (Amanda) Turner, Caitlin (Drew) Pollard, and Christopher Curts, and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Randi, Phoenix, and Axel.

Visitation was at the Van Buren UMC Fellowship Hall on Monday, July 11, 2022, and again on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 10 to 11 a.m.. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, with Pastor Brad Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Van Buren United Methodist Church.
