Richard Allen Meekin, of Huntington, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at his residence. He was 76 years old.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1945, in Huntington, IN, to James Meekin and Evelyn (Chapin) Meekin.
He graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1964. He proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam, War. He married the love of his life Pamela J. Lunon on January 16, 1971, in Huntington, IN. They shared 29 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on May 21, 2000.
He had worked at Dexter Axles and retired from Orton Crane in 2006 after many years of service. He was a past member of the VFW Post 2689 and an active member of the American Legion Post 85 both of Huntington, IN. Meekin was honored to have served his country and be a United States Army Veteran. He was an avid gardener who loved growing vegetables to share with his family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, liked watching TV, going for rides around town, and was a pro at mushroom hunting.
Survivors include his son, Jeffry A. (Jennifer) Meekin of Ft. Wayne, IN; three granddaughters, Zowie Meekin, Zoey Steigerwald, Daisy Clem; two brothers, David H. Meekin, IN, Jeffrey L. Meekin both of Huntington, IN; sister, Linda S. Goings of Huntington.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Pamela J. Meekin, father, James Meekin, Jr., mother, Evelyn M. Meekin, brothers, John W. Meekin, Randy D. Meekin, and Jim L. Meekin.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at Bailey- Love Mortuary with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating.
Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery in Huntington. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 85 Honor Guard.
