Michael S. Baum, of Fort Wayne and previously of Huntington, passed away at 1:28 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, surrounded by family.
Michael was born on April 23, 1950, in Plymouth, the son of Bruce Baum and Marilyn (Sarber) Baum. He graduated from Huntington County Community High School with the class of 1968 and then proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He went on and attended classes at Purdue University. He married Gail D. Beekman on Dec. 19, 2001, in Zanesville. They shared nineteen years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 16, 2020.
Michael faithfully attended Pathway Community Church in Fort Wayne. He had co-owned Special Trucks Inc for many years and currently worked for Fox Contractors/Soil Solutions as a project manager for ten plus years. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and riding horses. Was a passionate collector of pocket watches, knives, and smoking pipes. He was an avid Purdue University fan, of all sports. Michael was a tireless worker. He adored his grandkids and watching them play sports. Michael always made sure to devote his time wisely, which meant spending it with those he loved.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kate (Kyle) Brown of Huntertown, Angie (Zane) Johnson of Precsot Valley; step son, Mark A. (Theresa) Kitt of Roanoke; two step daughters, Keri Gordon of San Diego, Rian (Nick) Simpson of Indianapolis; sister, Jean (Don) Martin of Huntington; brother, Larry (Barb) Baum of Grand Haven; step father, Fred (Karma) Boyd of West Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Nicole) Kitt, Miles (Morgan) Johnson, Marisa Kitt, Ethan Johnson, Noah Kitt, Ashton Johnson, Jackson Brown, Harrison Brown; four great grandchildren, Owen Kitt, Silas Kitt, Everett Johnson, Hudson Johnson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gail D. Baum, father, Bruce Neil Baum, mother, Marilyn Baum, and brother, Jeff Baum.
Visitation is from 3 – 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington. Funeral services are being held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Ron Williams officiating. There is a one hour of visitation prior to the service. Military Honors will be rendered by the VFW Post 2689 Honor Guard.
