Tillman G. Gerber

Tillman G. Gerber, 87, of Bluffton passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022 at Christian Care Retirement Community in Bluffton. Tillman was born on March 14, 1935 in Wells County to Elias and Rose (Schwartz) Gerber.

He graduated from Lancaster Central High School in 1953. He furthered his education at Indiana University in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bluffton and a member of the United Methodist Men.Tillman worked for National Oil and Gas for 54 years, retiring in 2014.

On October 20, 1956, Tillman and Betty Rose Hoopengardner were married at the Ossian United Methodist Church. Together, they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Bluffton, two sons,Timothy (Janet) Gerber of Greentown and Benjamin (Lori) Gerber of Markle; eight grandchildren, Sara (Gerber) Ugren, Emily (Gerber) Sveson, Kristen (Gerber) Whitehead, Victoria (Gerber) Beitz, Jenai (Croft) Miller, Shaylee (Gerber) Harrison, Alexander (Autumn) Croft and Jacob (Brooke) Gerber; 11 great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Gerber.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, Mathew and Andrew, and his siblings; Wendell Gerber, Vernon Gerber, Robert Gerber, Audrey Paxson, Lucille (Steffen) Clark and Victor Gerber.

A service to celebrate Tillman’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton with Pastor Sherrie Drake officiating. The family will be at the church after 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ossian.

Visitation will take place from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton.

Memorials may be made in Tillman’s memory to First United Methodist Church of Bluffton. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton.
