Betty L. Hoover

Betty L. Hoover, 84, of Columbia City, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne.

Betty was born on July 6, 1938, in Richland, New York, the daughter of Erson Gokey and Mildred (Baker) Gokey. She graduated from Central Square High School with the class of 1956 and proudly enlisted in the United States Army. She married the love of her life Ralph B. Hoover on Dec. 27, 1958, in New York. They shared 56 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on April 22, 2015. She retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after 20 years of service. Betty enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and taking walks with her friends.

She was known for her wonderful chocolate chip cookies and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved to make others laugh with her famous one-liners. Betty was devoted to her family and passionate about spending time with each of them.

Survivors include her three sons, Jim T. (Fran) Hoover of Bellevue, Dan A. (Sylvia) Hoover of Fairborn, Ohio, Don P. (Traci) Hoover of Grand Rapids; daughter, Mary M. (Scott) Yingst of Columbia City; nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Erson B. Gokey; mother, Mildred M. Gokey, husband; Ralph B. Hoover; brother, Robert Gokey and sister, Ruth Panzetta.

Visitation will be from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington.  Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Chris Hayden officiating.
