William “Bill” Ernest Swihart, 70, of Huntington, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, peacefully at home in the company of his family.
Bill was born on May 20, 1952 in Huntington, the son of Richard Swihart and Betty (Farley) Swihart. He graduated from Central Noble High School with the class of 1970. Bill fell in love at first sight and married the love of his life Deborah L. Rittenhouse on Nov. 1, 1975 in Bippus. He had previously worked for Guhl Machine Shop and Orton Crane before retiring in 2019 from Global Precision Products of Wabash after 17 years of service. Bill was a faithful member of The Well United Brethren in Christ Church of Huntington. He volunteered many hours coaching youth bowling at Oak Lanes for 18 years, as well as PAL basketball and softball.
Bill enjoyed going fishing, camping, bowling, and playing cards on the weekends with friends. He was an avid Indiana basketball and Chicago Bears football fan. Bill was a wonderful caretaker, provider, and family man. His grandchildren were the highlight of his existence and they meant the world to him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Deborah Swihart of Huntington; daughter, Amanda Van Pelt of Huntington; son, Shawn (Tricia) Swihart of Huntington; six grandchildren, Maddie, Maddox, Jayden, Malakai, Aiden and Kyler; one great-grandson, Atticus. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Swihart; mother, Betty Swihart; sister, Linda Carpenter; brothers, Richard Swihart, and Norman Swihart.
Visitation took place on Monday, Nov.28, 2022, at The Well, 1883 Old U.S. Highway 24, Huntington. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at The Well with Rev. Josh Kesler officiating. Burial took place in Bippus Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.
