Huston A. Smith

Huston A. Smith, Jr., age 87, of Huntington, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. 

Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 1, 1935, in Gloucester County, Virginia, to the late Huston A. and Mabel (Smith) Smith, Sr. Huston is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann C. Smith (nee Allman).

Huston graduated from Huntington High in 1954 and served four years in the United States Navy. He worked for the Erie Lackawanna railroad, Smith Decorating, G.E. and retired from Dana Corporation.

Huston loved life, living with exuberance and purpose. He loved his family deeply and cared for them well. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of cooking and spending time hosting family dinners and impromptu parties with friends who dropped by. He cherished time at home with his wife and loved his backyard view. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Huston enjoyed connecting with nature, fishing on Indiana and Wisconsin lakes with his kids, and especially his grandchildren, eventually setting his rod aside just to bait hooks and get the fish off.

Huston is survived by three daughters, Lisa Schepper, Indianapolis, Julie (Jim) Haifley, Roanoke, Barbara (Paul) Powers, Woodbine, Georgia; 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Huston was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Petrucelle; grandson, Aaron Powers; siblings, Francis Smith and Dorothy McCoy.

He will be very missed by his family…he was our rock.

Services and burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
