Mary Esther Kohr, 102, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at 8:35 am Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Mary Esther was born on May 12, 1920, in Huntington, the daughter of A.O. Garretson and Elizabeth (Reed) Garretson. She graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1938 and married Theodore "Ted" Kohr on June 24, 1939, in Huntington County; he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2004. She was a member of the Dallas Township Extension Home Makers from 1944 to 2014, where she was the past president and treasurer. She served two terms on the Huntington County Extension Board. She also served many years on the Democratic Precinct Committee Dallas Precinct #1. Mary Esther was a member of the Central Christian Church of Huntington. She was also a member of the Heritage Guild and Historic Forks of the Wabash. She worked at the A&P Supermarket and retired from Andrews Greenhouse in 1985. Mary Esther was an avid reader. She enjoyed sewing cloth dolls and doll clothes. She took pride as a very experienced colorist, her work was that of perfection. Mary Esther loved volunteering in Chief Richardville House at the Forks of the Wabash and at Sheets Museum.
Survivors include her son, Max (Pauline) Kohr of Maumee, Ohio; two daughters, Jo Ann White of Huntington, Cindy (Jay) Martz of Huntington; daughter-in-law, Karen Kohr of Huntington; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, A.O. Garretson, mother, Elizabeth Garretson, husband, Theodore "Ted" Kohr, sons, Robert Kohr and Thomas Kohr, son-in-law, Jack White, and grandson, Joel Kohr.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to Noon, Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. Funeral services will be held at Noon, Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Chris Hayden and Reverend Sam Young officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Riverside Cemetery in Andrews.
