
James W. Whitacre, 93, of Huntington, passed away at 8:43 pm Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at Envive Healthcare of Huntington.
James was born on Nov. 17, 1929, in Fort Wayne, the son of Paul Whitacre and Catherine (Marshall) Whitacre. He graduated from Huntington High School. He then married the love of his life, Frances Elaine Pinkerton on June 4, 1955, in Huntington; she preceded him in death on August 20, 2021, after they spent 66 years together. He retired from Dana Corporation Marion after 39 years of service. James was a proud United States Army Veteran and was a member of the VFW Post #2689. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Indiana Hoosiers. James also had a passion for bowling. He loved to do just about anything in the great outdoors, James was a big-time fisherman, hunter, and mushroom hunter.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey L. (Rhonda) Whitacre of Huntertown; daughter, Julie A. (Mary Campbell) Whitacre of Huntington. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elaine Whitacre, father, Paul Whitacre, mother, Catherine Whitacre, sister, Joyce Dice, and sister, Marg Bowden.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Raymond Scribner officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
