
Rev. George D. Cole, 96 of Huntington, passed away Thursday afternoon Dec. 29, 2022 at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. George was a 1944 graduate of Chesterfield – Dover High school in Ohio, where he played baseball and basketball all four years. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp Cadet program after graduation. He served in Civil Air Patrol for 13 years in Search and Rescue. He received his Bachelors in Psychology in 1966 and his Bachelors in Theology in 1967 both from Huntington University. He served churches in Montpelier, Kunkle, Nettle Lake Ohio as well as Hudson/Corunna, Olive Branch (Lakeville), Indiana. After 24 years of ministry he retired from Convoy, Ohio in 1988. He also taught Industrial Arts in the 1970’s at Four County school near Archbold, Ohio. He continued to do light construction and remodeling which was one of his passions. He and Aldene spent some winter months for several years in Florida.
George was born on July 30, 1926 in Fulton County, Ohio to George Ray and Ruth Belle King Cole, the first son and second oldest of eight children.
He was united in marriage to Aldene D. Oyer on Nov. 23, 1947 in Kunkle, Ohio at the Kunkle UB Church. Aldene, his wife of 75 years, survives.
Additional survivors include two sons: Richard (Kathy) Cole of Huntington and Robin (Jean) Cole of Roanoke; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and twelve step-great grandchildren; a brother: Rev. Jerry Cole of Wilmington, Ohio and a sister: Judy Shumaker of Wauseon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Robert Cole and Milton Cole and three sisters: Yvonne Raker, Ruby Rupp and Bonnie Gardner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
