Jimmie C. Smith

Jimmie C. Smith, 84, of Montpelier, went home to be with the Lord at 7:34 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at IU Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on Saturday, March 5, 1938, in Monticello, Kentucky. He married Shirley (Haworth) Smith on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1965, in Montpelier; she preceded him in death on May 18, 2010. Jimmie attended the Monticello Kentucky High School. He served his country in the US Army. He worked for Crist, Inc. where he was a trucking retailer in the order dept. and oversaw the warehouse for 28 years. Jimmie enjoyed gardening, fishing, yard work, and above all loved spending time with his family. He was a 50-year member of the Millard Brown American Legion Post 156.

Jimmie will be sadly missed by his son Slade (Amy) Smith, Yorktown, granddaughters Megan Christine Smith, Yorktown, Rylee Grace Smith, Yorktown, several nieces & nephews, brother-in-law Howard Kennedy, New Castle, and sister-in-law Julia Smith, Monticello, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Haworth) Smith, father Ernest Marshall Smith, mother Martha Lee (Pierce) Smith, brother Ralph Fredrick Smith, sister Gatha Craig, brother Ray M. Smith, and sister Loretta Kennedy.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home 109 W Windsor St Montpelier on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, from 4  to 8 p.m..

A service to celebrate Jimmie’s life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, with Pastor Kevin Holt officiating.  Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army.
