Sylvia Louise Lawson

Sylvia Louise Lawson, 72, of Geneva, Indiana, met her Lord and Savior at 3:41 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022. She was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. Sylvia (Sis) loved the Lord, her family, her friends, and her church.

Sylvia was born to James and Katherine O’Neal on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1950, in Madison, Indiana. As a child and adult, Sylvia enjoyed reading. Her love of Shakespeare inspired an elaborate home library named “The Shakespeare Library.” In addition, she enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures. As her nieces and nephews set to embark on adult life, she would gift them travel and education experiences in hopes of encountering something unique and new. “The world is your oyster.” (The Merry Wives of Windsor).

Sylvia was a 1967 graduate of Shelbyville High School. She attended Ball State University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education. Mrs. Lawson was a beloved Latin and English teacher at South Adams High School for many years. In addition, she served on the Board of Directors for her local Public Library.

A loyal servant to God, Sylvia attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant. Now that she has been welcomed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of her time on this Earth, it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for Sis.

Her brothers will lovingly miss her - James S. (Nancy) O’Neal, Greenwood, Indiana; Michael W. (Jamie) O’Neal, Dublin, California; Patrick L. (Lynne) O’Neal, Richmond, Indiana; nine nieces & nephews, and nine great nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband - George S. Lawson, whom she married on Friday, April 04, 1997, in Bryant, Indiana. Father - James B. O’Neal, and mother - Katherine Louise (Stephan) O’Neal.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington Street, Geneva, on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, from Noon to 2 p.m.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, with Pastor Dan Layden officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Geneva.
