James D. Chesterman

James D. Chesterman, Jr., age 77, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at his residence.

James was born on July 18, 1945, in Fort Wayne, to the late James Dale and Thelma (Mills) Chesterman Williams.  He married Cynthia A. Smith and she survives in Roanoke.

James was a 1963 graduate of Roanoke High School and served in the United States Army. He worked at General Electric and worked in insulation and fabrication.  He was a member of Pleasant Chapel Community Church in Roanoke and the American Legion #160.

Along with his wife, Cynthia, he is survived by his two sons, James Dale Chesterman, III, Henderson, Nevada, John David Chesterman, South Carolina; two brothers, Larry Williams, Fort Wayne, Keith (Kileen) Williams, Roanoke; five sisters, Barbara (Francis) Clark, Brookville, Missouri, Deloris (John) Smith, Huntington, Jean (Larry) Mottweiler, Elwood, Ann Knoll, Indianapolis and Karol (Paul) Strader, Fort Wayne.

Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Lawarence Williams.

Calling will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, from 2 to 3 p.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Chapel Community Church, 880 E – 1100 N, Roanoke, IN, 46783, with Pastor Joel Yeager officiating.

Military Honors will be presented after the service.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
