Betty “Anne” Lightner

Betty “Anne” Lightner, 86, of Huntington, passed away on Monday Jan. 9, 2023 at the Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Anne was a member of the College Park United Brethren Church. She graduated from Huntington College in 1969 with a degree in education. She later received her master’s degree from the University of Saint Francis. She taught for the Huntington County School Corporation, retiring in 1992. During her career, she taught at Huntington Catholic, Riley Elementary School, Andrews Elementary, and Central Elementary. After retiring, she became a member of the Huntington Retired Teachers. In her free time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, and playing cards and board games. Anne loved spending time in the summer at Lake Pike in Ohio and enjoyed attending Huntington University Basketball Games, but most importantly, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. 

Anne was born on March 31, 1936 in Greenfield, Ohio the daughter of the late Franklin and Laura (Longsworth) Norris.

She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Lightner on Sept. 7, 1957 in Huntington. Her husband survives.

Additional survivors include: a son: Monte (Beth) Lightner of Roanoke; a daughter: Michele (Joe) Santa of Huntington; a brother: Franklin (JoAnne) Norris of North Carolina; a sister: Ernestine Gibson of New Haven; five grandchildren: Ashley (Justin) Lightner of Indianapolis, Zach (Kristin) Lightner of Auburn, Carly (Brendon) Maxwell of Fort Wayne, Michael (Brittany) Santa of Bloomington, and Maria (Sam) Gentry of Indianapolis; and eight great-grandchildren: Malakai and James Maxwell, Poppy, Harry, and Teddy Lightner Isaac and Livi Santa, and Atlas Kosiba

She was preceded in death by a son: Martin “Marty” Lightner

Visitation will take place on Friday Jan. 13 2023 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel.

Interment will be at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Huntington.
