John W. Criss

John W. Criss, 82, of Huntington, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 at Parkview Hospital Randallia, Ft. Wayne. John was born on Dec. 25, 1940 in Terre Haute, the son of Thomas Criss and Edith (Hartley) Criss.

He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute with the class of 1959 and married Myrna J. Musselman on April 14, 1962 in Columbia City. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, was a member of the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge 823 of Huntington and a member of I.E.U. Local #901 (International Union of Electric Workers of FT. Wayne). He retired as a Truck Driver from General Electric of Ft. Wayne, after 32 years of service, and retired from Old Dominion Trucking company in Ft. Wayne after six years. John was the owner of the AMOCO Food Shop from 1983 to 1998, and was the owner of the Sweet Cup from 1980 to 1992.

John remains one of the most kind, loving, and humble men many will ever have the pleasure of knowing. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family, the two things he valued most in the world. While those he’s left behind are deeply saddened by this loss, we are grateful and blessed to have been loved by him. John and his values will live on through the lives of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren; may we all make him proud.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna J. Criss of Huntington; son, Michael W. (Annette) Criss of Titusville, Florida; daughter, Michelle M. (Mark) Eckert of Huntington; brother, Allan W. (Beverly) Criss of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister, Jean (Jimmy) Geissler of Roanoke; granddaughter, Desiree; two grandsons, Tristan and Draft; six great-grandchildren, Dayton, Zara, Ainsley, Ryker, Mariella, and Easton.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mona Lynn Criss, brother, Donald T. Criss, sister, Judy Riley, sister, Sue White, sister, Nancy Hardwick, father, Thomas D Criss, and mother, Edith Criss.

No services will be held at this time.
