Thomas “Scott” Stuart

Thomas “Scott” Stuart, age 69, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, at his residence.

Scott was born on January 22, 1953, in Alexandria, VA, to Calvin and Evelyn (Jeffers) Stuart. He married Kathryn “Kate” (Scheiber) Stuart on May 9, 1981, and she survives.

Scott is survived by his children; Carrie (Paul) Sorvari, Osceola, IN, Kyle Stuart, Huntington, IN, Stephanie (Rob) Golden, Fort Wayne, IN, Brian Stuart, Huntington, IN; granddaughters, Delaney Golden, Gabby Golden, Bella Golden, Joey Stuart, Julia Stuart; brothers, Calvin “Buzz” (Janet) Stuart, VA, Terry (Trish) Stuart, VA; one sister, Sheryl (Dwight) Sager, VA; and his dogs, Scout and Rufus.

Scott served in the United States Army from October, 1970 to October, 1976. He dropped out of high school and obtained his GED and served his country. He served during the Vietnam War and was a helicopter mechanic and crew chief. He also became an army recruiter.   After the Army he joined the Huntington Police Department and achieved rank of Captain.  He especially enjoyed his time as firearms training officer and retired from Huntington PD in 1999.  After retirement, he worked at Akal Security and was a court security officer at Fort Wayne Federal Courthouse and was a 7th circuit contract manager covering IN, IL and WI.  He also worked part-time security at the Huntington County Courthouse.

Scott enjoyed hunting, all things firearms, and most of all spending time outdoors with his family. He and Kate could frequently be found walking in the woods on their property. He loved watching his fur-pals, Scout and Rufus chase deer through the fields. He taught Delaney, Gabby and Bella many things about nature on countless 4-wheeler rides on his appropriately named, bright yellow ATV, “Bumblebee”.

In keeping with Scott’s wishes his body was donated to the Anatomical Education Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
