Carolyn Sue Smith, 85, formerly of Roanoke, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Heritage Point of Huntington.
Carolyn was born August 5, 1937 in Kendallville, IN to the late Marion and Rosellyn (Sollenberger) Garstka. She married Stanley Lee “Pete” Smith March 9, 1959 and he preceded her in death December 28, 2017.
Carolyn was a 1955 graduate of Roanoke High School and a 1958 Graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, IN. She worked as a Registered Nurse for: St. Joe Hospital, Lutheran Hospital and Cameron Hospital, Angola, IN. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, IN.
Carolyn is survived by four sons, Timothy Smith, New Haven, IN, Anthony (Mary Ann) Smith, Columbia, SC, Michael (Vickie) Smith, Lafayette, IN, and Andrew (Jennifer) Smith, Ocean Spring, MS; and one daughter, Beth (Max) Melchi, Fremont, IN. two brothers, James (Pat) Garstka, New Haven, IN and Ted Garstka, Fort Wayne, IN. Nine grandchildren, Jacob (Christina) Smith, Suzanne (Matthew) Postell, Brandon Smith, Samantha Smith, Colin Smith, Sydney (Andrew) Amos, Matthew Melchi, Marissa (Lane) Lewis, and Mallory Melchi; and six great grandchildren. Also a sister in law Sharon (Steve) Williams and a brother in law Steve (Jorja) Smith.
Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Larry Garstka.
Calling will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with Mass immediately following at 10:00 a.m. all at St. Joseph Catholic Church 641 N. Main St. Roanoke, IN 46783 with Father Dale Bauman presiding.
A Celebration of Life will be forthcoming.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
