
Michael D. Petre, age 79, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital, Auburn, IN.
Mike was born on May 20, 1943, in Huntington, IN, to the late Robert and Helen (Bauer) Petre. He married Janet S. Bippus on November 21, 1964, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington and she preceded him in death on September 22, 2022.
Michael was a 1961 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He worked at Noll Printing for 34 years and retired from 5 Star Distributing after 13 years of service. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He coached Kim League Basketball and was a baseball coach for little league and pony league.
Mike is survived by one son, James R. (Janell) Petre, Churubusco, IN; one daughter, Amy C. (David) Orr, Fort Wayne, IN; two sisters, Carol Jennings, Fort Wayne, IN, Constance (Dennis) Kaylor, Huntington, IN; six grandchildren, Taylor (Erika) Petre, Logan Petre, Mackenzie (Jordan) Cook, Shea Petre, Tony (Ashley) Orr, Justin Orr; and three great grandchildren, Wren Petre, Crew Petre and Hadley Cook.
Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one son, Todd Petre.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart/Deal Rice Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
Additional calling hours will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 10:00 am. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, Indiana.
A private burial will be at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
