Diana Sue Gentis, age 79, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Waters of Huntington.
Diana was born on October 5, 1943, in Wells County, IN, to the late Lester E. and Ruby (Bennett) Gentis.
Diana is survived by four sisters, Alice June Collier, New Haven, IN, Sally Chapin Stanley, Huntington, IN, Cheryl (William Gregor) Shurtz, Naperville, IL, Libby Pearson Buzzard, Upland, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
Diana was born with intellectual disabilities and as a child didn’t have the benefits offered today. In the 1970’s she joined Pathfinder Services and enjoyed 50 years of companionship, guidance, support and growth. She lived with family until about 9 years ago and then moved into one of their group homes until 4 years ago. Pathfinder Services continued to support her as recently as two weeks ago and would take her out on day trips which was the highlight of her day! With Pathfinder she learned to swim, bowl, and paint and participated in Special Olympics competitions and had the opportunity to exhibit her artwork. She loved Elvis and loved spending time with all the nieces and nephews. She will be missed so very much! Diana was also a life member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Gentis, Howard Gentis; and one sister, Patricia Tappy.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart/Deal Rice Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750, with Lead Pastor Ashlyn Kippert officiating.
Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren, IN.
