Willis Switzer

Willis “Bill” L. Switzer, 94, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Tipton Place, Huntington, IN.

 Bill was born on February 2, 1929, in Huntington, IN, to the late Walter and Stella (Emley) Switzer.  Bill married Arlene Deeter on April 22, 1951.  She preceded him in death on October 31, 2018.

Bill was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s First Community Church. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, stationed in Germany. He was a diesel mechanic by trade, working first at TMX and then at the Huntington County Highway Dept. He enjoyed watching IU Basketball on TV, showing his 1937 Pontiac Coupe at car shows and fishing with family and friends. Many family vacations were spent fishing in Wisconsin and southern Indiana.

Bill is survived by one son, David (Debra) Switzer; one daughter, Paula (Robert) Bittner, both of Huntington, IN; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Ensley, Sarah Wright, Andrew Bittner, Maggie Switzer, Whitney Switzer; and four great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by one daughter, Polly Marie Switzer on December 3, 2010; two brothers, Herman Switzer, Robert Switzer; and one sister, Ruth Platt.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN  46750.                        

Additional calling hours will be on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.

The burial will be Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Peter’s First Community Church in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN  46750.
