Barbara Carter

Barbara A. Carter, 86, of Roanoke, died and went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 18, 2023, in Fort Wayne. She was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Huntington, to the late Russell J. and Georgia Anna Spath (Brockup). 

In Liberty Center, on June 25, 1955, she married the love of her life, James Carter, Sr., and began raising a family. After 50 years of marriage, James died in 2006 and Barbara began traveling on senior bus tours. She especially enjoyed visiting friends and family. Those who knew Barbara will always remember her for the loving care and dedication she gave to her children and husband over the years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara is preceded in death by her son, Ron Carter.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, son, James (Sue) Carter, Jr. of Huntington, twin sons, Jerry (Tammy) Carter of Markle, and Larry (Laurie) Carter of Churubusco; daughter, Karla (Jamie) Farris of Waynedale; brothers, Richard (Carol) Spath, Robert (Charlotte) Spath, and sister, Betty (Phil) Andorfer; 21 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, as well as several other family members and friends.

Visitation will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at Roanoke Brethren Church, 415 S. Main Street, Roanoke, IN 46783 with a service following at 12:00 pm. Pastor Ken Thompson officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Saturday morning between 8:00 am and 11:00 am. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Roanoke Brethren Church, American Heart Association, or American Cancer Society, in honor of Barbara. Burial will take place at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, IN immediately following the funeral service. At the family’s request, there will not be a traditional procession or committal service at the cemetery, however, anyone who wishes to see the interment may go to the cemetery.
