Barbara Faye Smith, 79, of Huntington, passed away at 11:30 pm Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.
Barbara was born on December 24, 1943 in Huntington, IN, the daughter of Burl A. Covey and Dorothy I. (Griffith) Covey. She married Billy Conrad Smith on June 1, 1963, he preceded her in death June 19, 2014 after 51 years of marriage.
She was a 1962 graduate of Huntington Township High School. She was a member of ABWA. She worked as a secretary and had the opportunity to use her Shorthand Skills for E-systems Memcor, Roush and Heffelfinger Attorneys At Law, and Magnetek. She then worked at United Technologies until retirement in 2009.
She attended Bethel Assembly of God Church.
She liked being outside in the sunshine. Barbara enjoyed taking care of her flowers and her family. She also enjoyed cookouts, walks, family gatherings, going shopping, Elvis, and sitting on the patio.
Barbara and her husband, Bill, spent quality time with their grandchildren. Earlier in their marriage together, they enjoyed Lake Tippecanoe with family, bingo, bowling, Gold Wing motorcycle trips, and CB coffee breaks with friends. They were members of the Moose and joined a few bowling teams.
Survivors include daughter, Teresa (John) Murray of Huntington, IN; son, Roger C. (Wendy) Smith of Huntington, IN; Five granddaughters, Tonya (Joe) Rye of Burlington, CO, Sondra Holmes of Fayetteville, AR, Julia (Casey) Goodspeed of Huntington, IN, Elizabeth Menga of Durban, South Africa, and Blessing Menga of Huntington, IN. Three grandsons, John (Janelle) Murray of Huntington, IN, William (Jamie) Murray of Brownsburg, IN, and Jadon Conrad Smith of Huntington, IN; Seven great grandchildren, Janessa, Nick, Alivia, Katie, Mathew, Liberty, and Justice; One great-great grandson, Noah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Conrad Smith, father, Burl A. Covey, mother, Dorothy I. Covey, two brothers, Burl D. “Jim” Covey, Thomas F. Covey, and sister, Nancy I. Butler.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with (name) officiating. Private burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Marion, IN.
