Robert D. Smart, 89, of Huntington, passed away at 7:56 am Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at his residence.
Robert was born on September 23, 1933 in Lawrence County, IN, the son of Dan Smart and Nora (Fults) Smart. He graduated from Dallas Township Commissioned High School with the class of 1951 and married Kay A. Cozad on March 7, 1953, in Huntington, IN; she preceded him in death on February 26, 2003. He retired from being an Operating Engineer after several decades of service. He has been in good standing with the International Union of Operating Engineers for 71 years. Robert loved his job and even spent his spare time doing construction and woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and giving them all a hard time. In his younger years, he was an avid fan of all things waters ports and boating.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sherry Cotton of Huntington, IN, Debra (Rick) Ellenberger of Huntington, IN; Two sons, Steven (Victoria) Smart of Hudson, IN, Montgomery (Anita) Smart of Stroh, IN; Twelve Grandchildren; and Ten Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Father, Dan V. Smart, Mother, Nora M. Smart, Wife, Kay A. Smart, four brothers, and one sister.
A private family burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion, IN, at a later date.
