Miriam M. Jones, 101 of Warren, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 1:50am at Heritage Pointe in Warren, less than a month before her 102nd birthday.
Miriam was born on September 13, 1921, in Van Buren, Indiana, to Burtney Josiah and Lillian Sophia (Howard) Ferguson. She married Robert Lee Jones on May 7, 1942, who preceded her in death in April 2004. Miriam graduated from Van Buren High School. Miriam was a lady of many talents…an awesome cook and baker, a great seamstress, and a talented pianist. She was known for her delicious baked goods, especially pies.
Miriam learned to play the piano at an early age and passed along her talent by giving piano lessons to many Van Buren children in her young adult years. Unfortunately, to the chagrin and amusement of her daughters, and others, they didn’t seem to inherit her talent. She played piano for the Matthews United Methodist Church for many years. During the winter months she played for the evening church services at their Florida Retirement Community, Paradise Bay, and then after moving off the farm she continued to play for church services at Northwood Assisted Living and also just for entertainment. She continued to play at Heritage Pointe in Warren until shortly before she passed away. It seemed to give her comfort and the other residents would tell us that they also enjoyed hearing her play. Hopefully there is a beautiful piano waiting for her in Heaven!
She worked as a bookkeeper during WW II while her husband served in the Army and later on, she worked many years for Marion Paving Company which was owned by her sister and brother-in-law.
She belonged to several different ladies’ clubs and organizations throughout her life and along with her husband served their church, The Epworth United Methodist Church, in many different ways.
For almost all of Miriam’s 101 plus years she was blessed with a full life that was well lived. We thank her for all the love and care she gave to us for those many years.
