
Hedwig M. Rumpel, 98, of Geneva, IN, passed away at 5:42 PM on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Woodcrest of Decatur in Decatur, IN. She was born on Sunday, September 21, 1924, in Upper Herby, Poland. She married Heinz Manford Rumpel on Saturday, December 27, 1947. Hedwig was a member of the St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church, Geneva, IN. She retired from CTS in Berne, IN. after 26 years of service. Hedwig enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent cook. She was a member of the Fort Wayne Mannerchor & Damenchor (German Choir) since 1976. She was a friend to everyone she met and was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law. Everyone loved to hear her stories as well as her accent.
She will be sadly missed by her Daughter - Margaret (Keith) DeMeritt, Ft. Wayne, IN, Son - Richard (Joan) Rumpel, Decatur, IN, Daughter - Susan (Von) Jones, Geneva, IN, Daughter in Law- Barbara Rumpel, Ft. Wayne, IN, Sister-in-Law- Stephanie Piekarski, Poland, 7 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband- Heinz Manford Rumpel, Father - Richard Piekarski, Mother - Maria (Stroba) Piekarski, Son- Tony Rumpel, Brother- Viktor Piekarski, and several Brothers & Sisters.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home 100 N Washington Street Geneva on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the St. Mary of the Presentation Church.
A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Presentation Church 5790 E. 1100 S. Geneva, IN. at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2023 with Father Fortin officiating. Interment will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
