Paul Jay Yarger

Paul Jay Yarger, 90, of Marion Indiana, passed away on October 12th, 2023, at his home in Marion Indiana, surrounded by his family. 

Visitation will be from 10AM to 1PM Saturday, October 21st, 2023, at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, 201 West Main St. Van Buren, Indiana. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM , Saturday, October 21st, 2023, at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Hummel of Grace Community Church officiating.   Burial will follow at Van Buren Cemetery. 

Paul Jay Yarger, born April 26th , 1933 on a small rural farm in Wells County Indiana. At the age of three, the Yarger family moved to Van Buren Township of Grant County where he spent the rest of his life. 

For Christmas, at the age of seven, Paul and Verlis, his brother, were given a pony.  His father led the pony right into the house! Paul was involved in helping his father on the family farm.  He enjoyed playing Basketball in high school where he was a 3-year varsity player.  He graduated from Van Buren high school in 1951.

He enlisted in the United States Army on January 31st, 1952, for 3 years and then five years in the United States Army Reserves.  He served in Korea for 1 year 5 months and 13 days as an engineer equipment mechanic as part of the 523rd Engineering Pipeline Company. Awards received while in the military were: Korean Service Medal, Three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, AR 672-15, and the National Defense Medal.

On May 23rd, 1954, he married Janet M. Moriarity while on leave and then left for Fort Benning Georgia.  

After his military service, Paul was a mechanic at a local Ford dealership. He then drove a truck for the Shell Oil Company for four years before being employed by the General Motors Stamping Plant in Marion Indiana.  Paul retired from GM after 30 plus years as a machine repairman.

Beginning in 1991, Paul and Janet enjoyed going to Florida in the Winters for the next 19 years. 
Paul and Janet attended Grace Community Church.

Paul was vitally interested in helping family keep things fixed.  He definitely was always a help to others.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother Ruth (Shideler) Yarger, his father John Yarger and his wife, Janet of 68 years.

Paul is survived by his children Paul Gregory Yarger and Debra Anderson, and his brother, Verlis Yarger. Paul had five grandchildren: Olin Yarger, Karen (Jordan) Henkel, Casie (Darrel) Rutledge, Brent (Jaynie) Anderson, and Brooke (Brian) Herasymchuck. Paul had five  great-grandchildren: Garrett Rutledge (Casie), Skyler Marshall (Karen), Remi and Josie Anderson (Brent) and Riley Herasymchuck (Brooke).

Memorials may be given to Grace Community Church for their foreign mission’s program.
