Jane Arlene Hewson

Jane Arlene Hewson, 78, of Huntington, passed away at 2:17 pm Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at her residence.

Jane was born on April 21, 1945, in Lynn, IN, the daughter of Floyd Fulks and Dorothy (Kenworthy) Fulks. She graduated from Lynn High School with the class of 1963. The Fall of 1963 Jane began her college studies at Marion College which is now Indiana Wesleyan University. While attending school at Marion College, Jane met the love of her life, Reverend Gerald Hewson. On April 11,1965, Jane and Gerald were the only two college students injured in the Palm Sunday tornado that hit Marion. Gerald’s injuries required him to stay in the hospital for two weeks, but Jane had several surgeries and was unable to finish her sophomore year. Gerald was able to finish his senior year and graduate that spring. Jane then married Gerald on August 21, 1965, in Fountain City, IN.

Jane was very active in all the churches that her and her husband, Gerald served in. Jane was Gerald’s confidant, prayer warrior, and strongest supporter during his ministry in the Methodist Church, later to become the United Methodist Church. They served in churches in Northeastern Indiana and as District Superintendent of the Huntington District his last 5 years of ministry. She worked as a Teacher’s Aide for many years at various schools before retiring in Huntington, Indiana to be near their children and grandchildren.

Jane loved spending time outside doing yard work. She was an amazing baker and an avid reader. She was known for sending encouraging cards to let others know she was thinking of them. Jane loved her grandchildren, whether she was attending their school events, playing board games, or hosting them all for a sleepover, she was always looking forward to getting to spend time with them. Jane was especially proud of her three sons.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Hewson of Huntington, IN; Three sons, Kyle (Sherina) Hewson of Huntington, IN, Ryan (Brandi) Hewson of Poneto, IN, James (Yazmin) Hewson of Huntington, IN; Four grandsons, Trace (Cortney) Hewson of Huntington, IN, Nathan Hewson of Huntington, IN, Colton Holmes of Poneto, IN, Rugar Holmes of Poneto, IN; and Six granddaughters, Alyssa Hewson of Huntington, IN, Hannah Hewson of Indianapolis, IN, Jenna Hewson of Poneto, IN, Hope Hewson of Huntington, IN, Faith Hewson of Huntington, IN, Remi Holmes of Poneto, IN. She is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Fulks, and mother, Dorothy Fulks.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington, IN.
