
Maurice F. Reed, 90, of Huntington, saw His Jesus face to face at 9:00 am Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington in the company of his family.
Maurice was born on April 2, 1933, in Huntington County, IN, the son of Ernest Reed and Virginia (Fluke) Reed. He graduated from Union Township High School with the Class of 1951 where he was a member of the High School Sectional Championship Basketball Team, the Sharp Shooters. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Huntington College and his Master's in Administration from Indiana University. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Pasko, on August 30, 1953, at the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene.
Maurice was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving as a Photo Interpreter with Military Intelligence. He retired from Huntington County Community Schools after 42 years of service, where he served as Teacher, Administrator, Counselor, and Coach. Maurice also worked as the Principal at Roanoke and Riverview Schools. He coached baseball, basketball, tennis, and soccer at Huntington College and taught Health and Physical Education. He was a member at Huntington First Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School for 63 years, served on the board, and received the Distinguished Service Award. Maurice also volunteered with Gideon's International where he loved to work giving out Bibles to children. He was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teacher's Association, Huntington County Retired Teachers Association, Indiana State Principal Association, N.A.S.S.P., and the Huntington University Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, watching sporting events, and taking his grandchildren for walks in the woods or to the Kil-So-Quah campgrounds to look for bunnies.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Wife, Marjorie Reed of Huntington, IN; Four Sons, Gregory (Ruth) Reed of Huntington, IN, Gary (Julie) Reed of Christiana, TN, Rick (Sylvia) Reed of Lowell, IN, and Rodney (Sarah) Reed of Nairobi Kenya. Nine Grandchildren, Allison (Jacob) Gregory, Leigh Ann Green, Emily (Haden) Malmstrom, Megan (Jonathan) Reed-Hansen, Bradley (Natalea) Reed, Anna Reed, Rebecca (Jaaziah) Odongo, Catherine Reed, and Hannah Reed; and Nine Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Virginia Reed, Father, Ernest I. Reed, Brothers, George Reed, Harold Reed, and Max Reed, Sisters, Velma Willour, Golden Hale, Audrey Smith, and Bonnie Waltz.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Huntington First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, November 19, 2023, at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Stephen Bennett officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. A private burial service with military honors will be held at the Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 10:00 am.
