Donald E. Beal

Donald E. Beal, 93, of Jackson Township, rural Hartford City, IN, passed away at 5:45 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at The Waters of Hartford City.
He was born on Monday, June 9, 1930, in Blackford County, IN. Donald’s first wife, Anne Beal, is deceased. He married Mary (Tracy) Beal on Saturday, May 14, 1988, in Gatlinburg, TN. 
Donald was a graduate of Hartford City High School. He earned a certificate in Agriculture from Purdue University. Donald was a Blackford County farmer, a former Blackford County Commissioner and county councilman. He loved gardening and growing giant pumpkins, many of which were shown at the Indiana State Fair. Donald had worked at Sneath Glass, and at 3M, both in Hartford City, and he was a truck driver for McCammon Trucking for 16 years. Donald enjoyed hunting, and was the national muzzleloader champion twice in the 1950s. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and amateur pilot, flying his private airplanes in his younger years, he coached community youth sports. He was a member of the Hartford City Masonic Lodge and the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association. Donald served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served on the aircraft carrier Coral Sea. In October of 2019, Donald proudly attended the Honor Flight in Washington D.C. with his oldest son Jim, where he was recognized for his sacrifices and achievements. Donald attended Pleasantdale United Methodist Church in Blackford County.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Tracy) Beal, son - Jim (Janet) Beal, Laotto, IN, son - Danny (Jeanette) Beal, Hartford City, IN, son - David Beal, Hartford City, IN, daughter - Cathy (Glen) Nevogt, Indianapolis, IN, stepson - Sean (Mary Ann) Mattingly, Anderson, IN, stepson - Kerry Patrick (Lisa) Mattingly, Advance, NC, stepdaughter - Tracy Kirk, Lewisville, TX, granddaughter - Zoe Kirk, Denton, TX, stepson - Gurney Temple Mattingly III, Anderson, IN, several grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father - Darrell Beal, his mother - Eunice Beal, his first wife - Anne, and his sister - Winifred.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home 109 W Windsor St. Montpelier on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A service to celebrate his life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home 109 W Windsor St Montpelier at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 7, 2023, with the Pastor Steve Loft officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery in Hartford City.
