Alta I. Kiefer

Alta I. Kiefer, 93,  Huntington, IN passed away December 16, 2023, at St. Ann’s Victory Noll.

Alta was born on June 23, 1930, in Huntington, IN to Mark and Pearl (McDaniel) Bollhoefer.   Her parents preceded her in death.   She married George L. Kiefer on August 16, 1947, in Huntington, IN.  He preceded her in death on July 9, 1991.

Mrs. Kiefer was a homemaker, and a stay- at- home mom raising seven children.  Alta ran a daycare out of her home for over 36 years.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Rosary Sodality, and MacDowell Music Club. Alta volunteered for room mother, and PTA, while her children were in school.  She was an avid seamstress, making costumes for school events as well as bridesmaids dresses and wedding dresses for her children’s weddings. After retiring from running the daycare, Alta worked part-time at Lincoln School in the cafeteria.   

Alta is survived by two sons, Ronald (Millie) Kiefer, Akron, IN, Vic (Melissa) Kiefer, Urbana, IN; four daughters, Diana (Carl) Meitzler, Pamela (Robert) Carroll, Angela (John) Caley, and Tamara Hauff, all of Huntington, IN.   She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara French; four brothers, Phillip Bollhoefer, Henry Bollhoefer, Von Bollhoefer, Arthur Bollhoefer; three sisters, Ethel Pace, Anna Widner, Pauline Rogers; one step-brother, Harold Redding; and one step-sister, Nina Morris; and one half-brother, Harry McDaniel.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church 903 N. Jefferson St. Huntington, IN.  Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St Mary Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Marion, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Masses in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
