Milton Asa “Milt” Rupley

Milton Asa “Milt” Rupley, 92, passed away at 7:12 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023, at his home.

Born on February 22, 1931, to Henry H. and Grace M. (Wagner) Rupley, he grew up on the family farm in Whitley County, Indiana.  He lived within a half mile radius his entire life, raising pigs and cattle and growing crops with his wife, Bert.  In March of 2023, he was honored with the Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award.

He was a graduate of the Washington Center High School Class of 1949.  He married Roberta Ann “Bert” Hullinger on November 26, 1953.  The couple raised four children: Dave, Jim, Linda, and Beth.  After 63 years of marriage, his beloved wife, Bert, passed away on April 9, 2017.

He loved his family, friends, farm, and a good pie.  Their house always had an open door, welcoming anyone, and was often filled with neighbors and friends, many of whom referred to him as the “Mayor of Luther.”

Surviving are his children, David (Kimberly) Rupley of South Whitley, James (Lynn) Rupley of Wolcottville, Linda (Roger) Carroll of Huntington, and Beth (Jim) Stricker of South Whitley; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Rupley of Huntington; and a sister-in-law, Jane Ann Hullinger.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty, and her husband, Clarence Kahn; a sister-in-law, Barbara Rupley; a brother-in-law, Robert Hullinger; and a great-grandson, Brady Pippenger.

Per Milt’s wishes, there will be no services.  Arrangement are in the care of Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
