Waneta June (Newhouse) Stevens

Waneta June (Newhouse) Stevens of Huntington County passed at the age of 100 years old. She was born on August 11, 1923, in Howard County to the late Clifford and Nettie Newhouse. Waneta graduated from Somerset High School in 1941 and married Lee Stevens on June 29, 1941.

Waneta was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; grandson, Kevin Lee Shane; brothers, Howard Newhouse and Harold Dean Newhouse; and sister-in-law, Eloise Newhouse.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Sue (David) Shane; grandson, Mark Shane; great-grandchildren, Brianna (Issac) Hill and Levi Shane, all of Huntington County; brother, Garry (Sharon) Newhouse of Marion; and sisters-in-law, Nancy Newhouse of Huntington County and Dora Alice Grove of Wabash County.

Waneta loved being in Fort Myers, Florida, for six months every year teaching small groups and playing cards such as Canasta, Bid Euchre, Pinochle, and Hand & Foot. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook, and gardener. She belonged to a Home Economics club for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was steadfast in her faith of Jesus Christ. When Waneta was facing an obstacle, she would say, “Well, I prayed about it; now we will see what happens.” She was a long-time member of Swayzee Methodist Church and then later Banquo Christian Church.

There will be no viewing. We choose to remember Waneta’s celebration of life, surrounded with many friends and family, while reminiscing on her 100th birthday party in August. She has now joined her Heavenly Father and family in Heaven. Her circle of life is complete.

Those wishing to honor Waneta’s memory may consider making a donation to Banquo Christian Church, 8924 S. 900 W. 35, LaFontaine, IN 46940.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
