Alan K. Slagel

Alan K. Slagel, 83, of Huntington, passed away peacefully at 3:16 am Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at his residence.

Alan was born on February 8, 1940, in Huntington County, IN, the son of Charles Slagel and Pearl (VanMeter) Slagel. He graduated from Rock Creek High School with the class of 1958. Alan proudly served in the United States Army from 1960-1963. Alan married the love of his life, Bonnie Thornton, on June 6, 1960, in Huntington, IN. Together they shared 63 wonderful years. He retired from Huntington City Police Department as a Captain after 34 years of service. Alan was a co-owner of Slagel Construction, Inc., working side by side with his son, Michael, for many years. Alan was a member of the VFW Post 2689 and American Legion Post #7, both of Huntington, IN. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Alan enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and mushroom hunting. He adored his family and spending time with his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Slagel of Huntington, IN; Two sons, Michael (Anne) Slagel of Huntington, IN, Martin Slagel of Huntington, IN; Daughter, Marla (Scott) Trainer of Huntington, IN; Ten Grandchildren, Derrick Ness, Cheyanne Schoeff, Esabella Slagel, Samson Slagel, Ashley Buckland, Amelia Nickle, Addey Seabolt, Regan Slagel, Reid Slagel, and Ryanne Slagel; and Nine Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Son, Mark Slagel, Daughter, Mitzie Slagel, Grandson, Ryder Slagel, Father, Charles Slagel, Mother, Pearl Slagel, Four Brothers, Merrill Slagel, Herald Slagel, Paul Slagel, Don Slagel, and Two Sisters, Darlene Gordon, and Neta Feemster.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Monday, January 29, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Monday, January 29, 2024, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Gary Dilley officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Marion, IN. Military Honors will be rendered by the VFW Post 2689 Honor Guard.
