Janet Mae (Allen) Sheetz

Janet Mae (Allen) Sheetz, 72 of Van Buren, Indiana, passed away at Life’s Journey Hospice in Avon, Indiana, on Friday, February 2, 2024.

Janet was born on March 22, 1951, in Huntington, Indiana, to Dorrell C. and R. Marceil (Harvey) Allen. She graduated from Eastbrook High School in 1969 and married David R. Sheetz on September 7, 1985, in Van Buren, Indiana. Janet owned a beauty shop in Van Buren for several years in her early 20s and continued doing hair after it closed. She worked as an apartment manager for Bradford Apartments for 10 years before going back to school to become a nurse. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 1997. Janet worked as a registered nurse in long-term care for 26 years before retirement. Janet loved to craft and would macramé, crochet, and sew. In her youth, she loved coaching softball and participating in Rural Youth events. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. Janet was a lifetime member of Alpha Zeta Beta Sorority.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father and mother in law, Robert H. and D. June (Evans) Sheetz, brothers, Jerry, James and Jerald Allen, sisters-in-law, Sherryl Allen and Janice Wilkes, brothers-in-law, Paul Sheetz and William Wilkes, niece, Laura Wilkes and nephew Scott Allen.

Loving survivors include her daughter, Ruthanne (Brian) Props of Bainbridge, IN, siblings, Jene (Sarah) Allen of Matthews, IN, Jan (Gay) Allen of Greenfield, IN, Joe (Yvonne) Allen of Upland, IN, Joyce (Gary) Frederick of Marion, IN, and in-laws Peggy Allen of Richmond, IN, Harry (Lora) Sheetz of Marion, IN, Mary (John) Fraizer of Marion, IN, and Brenda Sheetz of Gas City, IN, several grandpets with a special connection to Oliver, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember at Central Christian Church of Van Buren, located at 201 S 1st Street Van Buren, IN 46991, on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Tony Miner officiating. Burial will follow at Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren.
