Gary L. Townsend, 57, of Huntington, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at 2:31 p.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Townsend graduated from Northwestern High School, Kokomo, in 1971. He joined the United States Air Force, where he earned the rank of staff sergeant and served as an electronic communication and cryptologic equipment systems technician. He was employed by United Technologies, Huntington.

He was born Feb. 24, 1953, in Kokomo to Oren Merl and Cecil Marie Bell Townsend. He married Karen L. Inks on March 19, 1998. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Robert L. (Jessica) Thurston of Huntington; a daughter, Sherry E. Thurston, of Ossian; a brother, Marvin Townsend, of Missouri; and a grandson, Avery Thurston, of Huntington.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Ever Rest Memorial Gardens, Logansport, with Rev. Rick Hawks officiating. Military rites will be performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, Logansport.
